Just some ideas how you could enjoy your holiday at Angie's Rural Retreat.

Day 1

Arrive, settle in, order food and relax

Day 2

Drive 30 minutes to Wainuiomata south coast. Walk along beach to seal colony or climbing rocks at Baring head. Have picnic along the way and take in the wild coastal landscape.

Return to Angie's Rural Retreat. BBQ and good wine for dinner.

Day 3

Sleep in. After an extensive breakfast, explore your back yard. Pet the animals. Feed the eals. In the afternoon head-up to the bush and stop for a coffee at the bush cabin and then hang in the hammock for a bit to snooze or read a book. Then ascend to the top of the ridge for amazing views of Moores Valley.

At dusk go to the Wainuiomata hill look-out to take in the sunset over Wellington harbour. You can drive to the hill car park or include the excursion by walking the hill.

Day 4

It's a hot day today so you want to cool off a little. Just 5 minutes' drive is a scenic reserve centred around the Wainuiomata River.  There are several secluded swimming holes to use.

Otherwise head over to Days Bay in Eastbourne.  This is busy on a hot day so go early to secure a good car park and secure you’re the best spots on the beach. Set up your beach chairs close to the ice cream parlour because a good serving of ice cream is almost compulsory.

In the evening it is time to go out for a nice meal so you head to Jackson Street Petone for a meal. There is so much to choose from so here are our recommendations:

  • Bella Italia, Italian
  • Sprig and Fern, Beer and Pub food
  • Queen of Jackson, shake it up with a different eating experience
  • Tulsi – can't be faulted and great value Indian dining
  • Viva Mexico – because you like it hot
  • Butcher and Brewer – For your meaty treat on a hot plate
  • Or just go and explore, there are many other places with great food and service.

Day 5

Get up at the crack of dawn and return to the bush cabin and make yourself a steaming cuppa whilst watching the sun rise over the valley.

Afterwards it is time to head into Wellington, judged the coolest capital in the world. Take the train from Lower Hutt to avoid car hassles. If you are reasonably fit, walk from the train station to the top of Mount Victoria (1 – 1 ½ hours). You'll have amazing 360° views of Wellington. Otherwise just meander along Lambton Quay, New Zealand's foremost shopping precinct.

Return to the waterfront for some lunch. In the afternoon, visit New Zealand's most famous museum, Te Papa.

It's been a busy day, fortunately you can return to Angie's Rural Retreat have a couple of drinks before turning in on your comfy beds.

Day 6

There are still so many things to do, so today .... just lay back and chill out. Have a lazy lunch on the sunny porch at Angie's Rural Retreat. Spend some time enjoying the peaceful rural setting.

However, you can't sit around all day, so in the evening go for a walk in the East Harbour regional park. Walk starts in Wainuiomata and rises to the top of the ridge. As you descend, you will have most amazing views of the sun setting over Wellington harbour.  It's a good effort to get to the other side, but fortunately the walk ends at the Pavillion garden restaurant. Just as the sun finally sets you can chill out with wine and pizza.  Let us know in advance and we'll pick you up for your return to Angie's Rural Retreat.

Day 7

Can't believe that it is time to leave … the only thing to do is book your next stay at Angie's Rural Retreat.
